Ryan Chase's (WIP) Personal Site

It's 2024!

So it's been a few years. Since the time of that first blog post, I've done a couple of things:

2020 - 2024 Personal Updates

  • survived CoVID-19 and lockdowns
  • watched Dune and got into a car crash
    • I did not get into a car crash when I saw Dune 2
  • went to Australia and did not die by Spider
  • I turned 30
    • Arguably the hardest thing I've ever done

I'll also jot down a few relevant professional factoids:

What am I, professionally, doing now?

Since August 2023, I work as a Software Engineer at Celestron, the telescope company.

  • I maintain the planetarium desktop application, CPWI, as well as a password tool for wifi-enabled devices.
  • I work on the newly released, Origin "all-in-one intelligent telescope", building the web interface for the production-facing QA application

I'm an active volunteer with the civic tech nonprofit, Hack For LA, on 311 Data public service request visualization project. I joined in April 2023, my responsibilities as a Technical Project Lead includes:

  • managing the team project board
  • running several 311 Data team meetings per week
  • I manage the leads of the Dev, UIUX Design, UX Research, and the Product Management team

Since I've joined, we had to transition to a zero-cost infrastructure, replacing our backend infrastructure with free data hosting and an in-browser database for analytical processing.

We're launching in a month! See our dev site here: https://hackforla.github.io/311-data/#/map

Hopefully that's enough... I'd like to get ^^ this list into a palatable landing page for this site, rather than just a blog post format. I didn't actually want to continue using the Gatsby platform, but it was faster to migrate from Gatsby 2 to Gatsby 5 than to set up a completely new site on a VPS.

We'll see where it leads, hopefully something can happen in less than 4 YEARS!

:)
